This page provides links to CAC student pages that reflect on a collaborative project with 3rd grade that was designed to mark Peace Day on September 21st 2007.
These were some of the questions students considered as they made their pages:
-what was the most significant or surprising thing you learnt about the dropping of the atomic bomb?
-what questions you are left with?
-how did the story of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes make the topic relevant?
-what did you learn about resolving conflict in the world?
-how can we make the world safe from nuclear weapons?
-how did working together with an ES class move us towards a more peaceful community?
-how would you extend this project or interaction with the elementary students?
Include at least one visual - a photograph, an image, cartoon, drawing...
Include a peace quote.
These five points have been identified as ways to develop a culture of peace at CAC:
• Communicate and interact respectfully
• Seek peaceful solutions to conflict
• Engage in democratic, collaborative decision making
• Practice empathy, compassion and forgiveness
• Work to sustain our environment
Criteria for an effective wiki page:
Use your OWN words
Cite all sources
Be creative
Put effort into the page
Read the comments made by others and consider them
Make sure all spelling and grammar is correct - get a peer to check it too
Use appropriate vocabulary that reflects your understanding
Embed images/videos and explain why they are there and what you want the reader to understand and think about
Layout the page in an attractive, appealing and clear way
Make sure the reader learns something and leaves your page thinking ...and perhaps with further questions
